(Reuters) - In 2007, when the world was on the brink of financial crisis, U.S. income inequality hit its highest mark since 1928, just before the Great Depression.

Coincidence? Maybe not.

Economists are only beginning to study the parallels between the 1920s and the most recent decade to try to understand why both periods ended in financial disaster. Their early findings suggest inequality may not directly cause crises, but it can be a contributing factor.

This raises a host of social, economic and political questions. Should public policy aim to reduce inequality, and if so by what means? Does concentrated wealth at the top of the income spectrum generate asset bubbles, or vice versa? Could raising taxes or interest rates ward off financial meltdowns?

Americans are generally not bothered by inequality because they believe with hard work, they, too, can strike it rich. Government policies aimed at spreading the wealth rarely get much support. (Remember 2008, when then-candidate Barack Obama's campaign-trail comment about redistributing the wealth catapulted "Joe the Plumber" into media stardom?)

"It is usually only left-leaning rich people that care about inequality in the U.S.," said Carol Graham, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution think tank who studies the economics of happiness.

Those attitudes may be subtly shifting, although it is unclear that this is anything more than just a temporary knee-jerk reaction to the latest bout of turmoil.

Public opinion polls show voters mixed on whether to back higher taxes on the wealthiest households, as President Obama has proposed. The issue is so contentious that Congress put off its decision until after the November 2 midterm elections.

Resentment toward Wall Street is simmering as bankers' paychecks swell to pre-crisis levels while unemployment remains more than twice as high as it was in 2007. Some politicians have been voted out of office simply because they supported the $700 billion bank bailout enacted in 2008.

Yet there is nowhere near majority backing for the sort of progressive New Deal policies passed during the Great Depression, which helped narrow the wealth gap and keep it contained until it resumed widening in the 1970s.

This time around, the wealth disparity narrowed in 2008 because rich households took a heavier hit from the financial crisis, but Census Bureau data shows it turned around immediately. In 2009, inequality was at the highest level since Census began tracking household income in 1967.

America has one of the largest wealth gaps among advanced economies. Based on an inequality measure known as the Gini coefficient, the United States ranks on a par with developing countries such as Ivory Coast, Jamaica and Malaysia, according to the CIA World Factbook.

TRACKING THE DIVIDE

Emmanuel Saez, a University of California, Berkeley, economist who was awarded a 2010 MacArthur Foundation "genius" grant for his work on income inequality, said recession-induced income declines for the super-rich tend to be fleeting unless there are "drastic" regulatory and tax policy changes.

His research with co-author Thomas Piketty shows the top 1 percentile of households took home 23.5 percent of income in 2007, the largest share since 1928, but that slipped back to 20.9 percent in 2008. (Unlike Census, Saez relies on IRS tax data, which is released with a two-year lag, so he does not yet have figures for 2009

You will be in charge of the groups in your state, as being the first one,

and it would be up to you and who ever you decide to work with, at least in the

first year, as we need to work with at least one other person, and can have as

many as 12 in one group, and as many groups as we want, but can only have

one vote in each one.

After that, for life, you should remain as one of the State or area Board

members. State board members from different states, would elect a Representative

each year, besides yourself, to work with other states, and representatives of two

on an International Board.

The other person should be elected by your group or in the groups anew after each year. The only requirement to stay in good standing for all groups, is that they

decide on at least one good project to be able to be a help to others (hopefully

where you see the greatest need of the people) and that you work by the ethics

of the universal Golden Rule, which can be found not only in most religions but

even among good non-believers, who can see the Golden Rule of treating others

with equal fairness, as the best way for all people to live together. You also need to agree to meet for a meal, potluck, at least once a year, More often as needed for any project you decide to work on.

Will look forward to seeing if you can find up to 12 people who are sincere

in wanting to have such a group. To tell you the truth, it took me and Rachel all year

to convince 12 people to come to our first annual potluck meeting. Where we elected

an overseer, a secretary and a treasure for the next year. Since some did not know

the others, we put little verses like "God is Love" Non-violence is better than violence"

etc. on each slip of paper, for the number of people in the group, and on one we also put Chairman, on another Secretary and on another Treasure, for the next year, and then drew the pieces of folded up paper from a jar.

If anyone got any office they didn't want they could put it back in the jar and that worked out good for us, may or may not for you. Next year those in our group will hopefully know each other better, so we could just have volunteers and vote for offices. We let it be known that nobody had to use their last name, just so long as the chairman knew how to contact them. In this way no one will be able to misuse our group, and we

will still have a network of many groups to help make our world better, not worst,

as it seems to be going, at present. Either way such a group is needed, at least for net-working, and mutual help. This way people of all beliefs, so long as they accept the Golden Rule, can work together.

We will help you in any way we can here, just let us know. Advice that is,

money or gold we have little.

Archbishop's Saying

Thank you Jerry for posting this,

I can't help but feel it goes with the saying added below your post, of the Archbishop being accused of being a Communist, whenever he talked of correcting the cause of the poverty, rather than just feeding the hungry.

In this country, most often these days when talking like about sharing the cost of health care, it's called that evil socialism, even coming from "Christians" when most should know that the Christianity of Jesus was about sharing, so everyone had enough and no one was in need.

This remained true of Christians until after the first 300 years, when the Emperor Constantine, made Catholicism the state religion, that gradually became more powerful, rich and self serving. The inequality of that kind of power almost always leads to abuse, physically, as well as economically, Spiritually, and will again.

The only cure is the equality of seeing each one of equal value, and we stop thinking of people as being above or below us, but begin to see ourselves as in God's eyes, of equal value for each other, then we can begin to come out of selfishness, especially those of us who feel we are a part of the Body of Christ and need to set the example.

I've seen one thing I like that Mother Mary is reported to have said at Medgugoye:

"Little Children, you are not holy enough, Therefore Pray, Pray, Pray, and work on your personal conversion, so you may be a sign to others." Aug. 25th 2009.

This does not mean those who have earned the respect of others, for any or innumerable reasons, should not receive it. But that does not mean thier life is of any more or less valuable, because of race, sex, age, culture. We may extra respect others because of either extra worldly or spiritual value, but that does not diminish the value of the least in worldly terms. The essence of equality is not only the universal Godlen Rule but includes a general respect for each one's life, each one's liberty or freedom, and each one's opportunity for their own pursuit of happiness. Helping, not hindering others, while we seek to help and love ourselves.

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH has had a problem

with sexually abusive priests. It is not rumor.

It is not anti-Catholicism. It's a fact, a fact

borne out by the millions of dollars paid in

settlements to victims. It's a fact borne out

by the staggering number of victims –

children whose lives were forever scarred by

individuals who were supposed to be

protectors and, instead, were predators.

It is in this context that people view the larger

institution of the Catholic Church. If there is

a collective association of guilt for these

heinous acts, it is collected around the

hierarchical structure of the institution. It

does not include all Catholics. And that

makes recent comments by Pope Benedict

XVI's personal preacher repulsive.

In a Good Friday sermon, the Rev. Raniero

Cantalamessa equated criticism of the

current pope, as well as the continuing

negative press over sexually abusive priests,

to anti-Semitism. What rubbish.

Cantalamessa used the coinciding of

Passover and Holy Week this year as a

springboard to reflect on Jews during a

religious service at the Vatican. He said,

"[Jews] know from experience what it means

to be victims of collective violence, and also

because of this they are quick to recognize

the recurring symptoms."

Six million Jews were exterminated by Nazis.

Jews have been discriminated against for

thousands of years solely because of

religious beliefs. Although anti-Catholic

movements have existed in history, there is

nothing that is equal to the Holocaust. The

current bad Catholic press has nothing to do

with theology. It has everything to do with a

structure that did all in its power to protect

predators, shield them from criminal

proceedings and did little or nothing to

protect and shield victims.

Benedict is being criticized for how he may

have handled abuse cases while still a bishop

in Germany. The media inquiries have been

fair. Given the now-public knowledge of how

widespread cover-ups were in dioceses

across the globe, there is good reason to

demand more answers.

According to The Associated Press,

Cantalamessa acknowledged the sexual

abuse of children by clergy but then said,

"There is sufficient talk outside of here." No,

father, there is not.

There are wrongs that can never be righted.

There is nothing that can atone for abusing

The History of Patriarchy"

Once a long time ago, in a past made up, boys and girls wern't

judged by what happened where their legs met. For a brief period of

time, people experimented with a Heirachy based on what happened when

their arm and torso met...behold the power of my hairy armpits! But Pitarchy never really caught on.

One day some guy named Pat had the not-so-bright idea of a Heirachy based on what was between people's legs. He called it Patriarchy. "Hey Pat, you just named this after yourself, didn't you?"

"Hmm...No?"

At first Patriarchy seemed just a dumb as Pitarchy, but then half the people realized they could be better off than the other half and soon Patriarchy ravaged the Country side... "Uh! Run! It's the forces of domination culture!

Since only men got to write books and teach higher education,as time went on people thought it was a good thing. Males would write "Feelings, (like Love), makes me feel weak." A wimmyn said "I'm too ruled by emotion to understand complex thought."...

Eventually a group of wimmin realized that contrary to popular vernacular, they didn't need any balls to be brave, and started a movement called feminism, almost 200 years have now passed and although much progress has been made, Patriarchy remains, unfortnatly.

Most men just don't want to give any power back to women.

Woman says "I'm not a doormat" and males yell back "feminazi".

Some wimmin wanted radical change. They wanted Equality and continued to say "I'm still not a doormat"..." males continue to claim "Feminazi".

So they got the mass media to spin "equality" to mean "anti-man".

Comedy shows would boast, and talk show host would preach "And these women are going to leave their husbands and become lesbians, and go to practicing witchcraft".

When in fact, most radical feminist don't hate men...they just hate what many men do to what they consider their property, women, and children. "You act like your opinion is more valid than mine". Also you keep referring to me as a child, and as a "sexual object". Maybe you should seek counseling...

Around this same time, when women began to see this, some of the other men began to see how it was affected them too and another movement began evolving, Anarchy, which claimed to be against all Hierachy. But in this movement Patriarchy was still present like "I thought that dishes could just wash themselves", "I don't care if the floor gets swept, if your thinking I should take my time and energy to do it...

In 1985 God called me to go to Israel, to make a Peace Scroll. After gathering many thousands of signatures from local Jews, Arabs and Pilgrims from all over the world, at the gates of the Old City in Jerusalem, gave it to the then Prime Minister Sharon.

Now The Holy Spirit of God says to make another Peace Scroll and this time to ask those now in control to sign it, as a means of avoiding any more disastrous war destruction!

The Universal Golden Rule found in all our major world beliefs.

"For Peace I will treat others with Equal Respect"

The post below is one that has seemed most logical to me from my own experience of seeing young children hit by parents and by older children that only seemed to teach them resentment at the least and often acceptance of violence in their own lives.

I think I was only able to see this clearly because violence of any sort was not tolerated in my family, or by most of those I was in contact with while growing up.

Most justify hitting children from their own upbringing and mistranslations of a few Jewish scriptures where they spoke of "spare the rod, and spoil the child". A "rod" in Hebrew culture was the "Staff of authority" a Priest used, not to beat people but to as sign of spiritual authority.

Althrough inthe past 5000 years, and probably much more, there has been one war after another and the violence that goes along with it. It is time we have to learn war no more if we want to prevent our capability to cause world wide destruction to end.

Violence of anyone, especially someone smaller than you, only teaches violence and disrespect, not real respect. We can if we really tried stop the cycle of violence, at least become a part of the solution,rather than a part of the problem,we may not even have been aware of our contribution.

Evenwith my most fortunate upbringing, I too at times have fallen into forms of anger and violence, but as soon as I recognize it I do all Ican to stop and correct it. I believe you can too. Count to ten, breath deep and repeat some meaningful positive word, or just get away by yourself, as soon as you can, teach, "Wage Peace" for "War is not healthy for Children or Other Living Things".

IMMIGRATION

The greatness of America stands or falls not by the dollar but by whether it continues towards Freedom, as long as it does not take away or deny the same rights and freedoms to others, such as our freedom of Religious Belief, Speech, and Equal Opportunity.

From the beginning there have been selfish, greedy, and prejudiced people who will try to destroy these Freedoms for others, while seeking more power for themselves. The fruits of their language and actions speak for themselves.

What right do we have to exclude anyone who comes here to work? Government services are provided by those who work! Business taxes are passed onto consumers of their product, as are State and Federal Taxes on goodsand services. Local property taxes are paid by owners and are includedin the cost of any rentals paid for by the renter.

It is time to seek Peace and not stir up more hate and violence, less you be consumed by your own negative-ness.

Military Industrial Complex in War

There is much evidence a negative love of money, power, and control is concentrated into the hands of a very few men and even fewer women who called themselves "Biliaburgers", "Skull and Bones", or"Illuminati", etc. Many such groups are somewhat interchangable and have inherited great sums of money down through the ages, primarily through instigating wars,as well as promoting slave-like wages, for most. Many related by familyand business ties. Most have political ties that use force to control the majority of people and control of means of destruction.

Our best hope to saveguard life and liberty for most people is to outlaw nuclear power, even for peaceful means, for nuclear waste, (depleted uranium) remains radio-active for up to 12,000 years, with no safeplace to store it. still being used even now in Iraq, to harden steel tanks, bombs, and bullets. When exploded they shatterinto a fine dust that rises into the jet stream and eventually isdeposited world wide, in our water and agricultural lands. It also makes an easy 9/11 kind of target with thousands of years destruction of the surrounding land.

Greed, as well as being power hungry, fuels many ungodly political policies, part of an evil plot to destroy millions, for easier control. You need to share this kind of information with at least 10-12 other adults you can trust, and then network with other such groups. Keep a minimum. 6mo. disaster supply’s, and funds.

As evil is the contamination, deliberate or not, of our food supplies, such as Mad Cow Disease, which takes from 5-15 years to incubate within the body, depending on how much contaminated beef one consumes! Those who survive the next 15 years will be most likely those who either get their beef from“safe” butchers or who become vegetarians. Many deer are already infected, who then will infect cattle by easily jumping fences for salt-licks.

Similar problems exist for our air and water supply’s. Long ago God called me to a life of Holy Love in exchange of worldly pursuits. Given an “Equality” message, The Golden Rule, found in all beliefs, and religions, but followed by few, faithfully.

God knows we all fail at times, as our more selfish worldly bodies keep trying to over-rule the Holy Spirit of God, who lives only within willing hearts. Not that the body is naturally evil, it was created for good, and does not rest easy when choosing a lesser path!

Wordsare not the things; they are but shadows of what is truth or reality.We “see” only partly. Confirm your judgment by the only universal message found in all beliefs, the Golden Rule of Holy Love.

“Do unto others as you would most want done for you”

Love God and each other, Jesus said, is what "sums up the Laws and the Prophets".

P.S.I understand inequality more than most, partly due to God's visit on my fifth birthday and having spent so many years seeking the cause and cure of inequality and injustice. It has been my passion, purpose and specific mission from God’s Holy Spirit, for too many years now.

In the beginning, found in Abrahams promise from God, was the Priestly birthright of the first born child. Women were soon denied equal rights by the wandering desert Semitic tribes. Patriarchies still control most legal chairs of politics and religions.

Most world cultures grew out of tribal hunting groups and into anagricultural based society where the mystical feminine act of giving birth contributed to a matriarchy that flourished. Materialism and Greed led to territorial wars. By the time the Israelites came out of the desert, seeking milk and honey lands, Patriarchy had taken over most of the savage world and controlled both religion and the laws,creating an imbalanced male controlled world ever since.

Almost the past 5000 years we've spent in one masculine war after another.

Not until 1921, were women in America , finally declared free from all legal male possession, and no longer could be considered as property.

Many still are too beaten or tied down to change their condition much, while some have adapted the helpless “bird in a golden cage” syndrome.

We love most when a loved one is considered our equal. One reason why homosexuality is mostly a male thing, with the need for an equal companion!

There is another kind of imbalance that can be from birth, and noticed most during the teen years, of an imbalance of the sexual hormones, in both male and females, as both sexes maintain a certain amount of both sex hormones, when one predominates during puberty. Yet in a much smaller percentage, at most around 10% and found also in the animal kingdom, where sexual desires are found to be primarily for the same sex.

Males in power positions say the female half, cannot decide what God calls them to. Possessed like spiritual property they remain mostly male workor play-things. This imbalance of inequality keep us in one war after another, because of males more aggressive nature.

How can there be Peace without “Equality”, the equal rights of all?

Why is this needed cure, for wars, inequality of all kinds, not being put into practice in our Church’s, Temples, Mosques?

What those of you individuals reading this do, or fail to do, will greatly determine if you remain in the Will of God or sink into a purgatory ofyour own making, here on earth, as well as in the beyond.

All must work for equal rights, at least for our souls sake, especially those who know and are therefore culperable.

May we have Equal Rights, especially within our Religions, from where God’s Morality should flow.

May God have Mercy on our souls,

It was awesome to be able to be able to show the Peace Scroll here, since most of the peace activist had boycotted Annapolis, and only a few showed up to confront those who were there and want to continue their inequalities between the Israeli's and the Palestinians.

Thank You Holy Spirit for bringing me here to witness for Peace and for the Equal Rights of All.

Maybenow President Bush can be held good for at least a newbeginning towards peace, where the present conflicts with the MiddleEast began, and good for a woman, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice,one of the few women present, to be chairing the discussions.

It'spossible, in the best interpretations of Prophecy, for a "1000 years"of peace to begin, and the choice of more war or peace.

Whoknows whether all the build up hate and revenge, stemming fromthousands of years of man's inhumanity to each other, can finally nowhave a chance to stop?

Doesn'tviolence happen from fear, fear of having what we have, taken away andthen not having enough! The greed of others and those stronger takingmore than their fair share, plunging us into a nuclear disasterthat could send us all back into the Stone Age.

Our actions should and could stem from a kindness like the Dali Lama has said, "My only Religion is Kindness".

Ifwe could all just start with that kind of belief, we would not have toknow war anymore but a life of Peace and Prosperity for all.

What is worth the worship, or following, except a religion of Kindness, Mercy, a Spirit of Holy Love?

Wehave been given only one universal message, that of The Golden Rule,found in all beliefs and even written within the heart of those whostill have their sanity, even those who longer have a belief in a Godwithout, as well as within.

The Golden Rule is the only rule of law, for any civilized society;

"totreat others the way you would most like to be treated", that meanswith equal fairness. Not just for those who think like you do, for justone race or belief, but for all life, even the needed concern for thehumane treatment of animals as well as the trees, that are ours only ascaretakers of.

Women are known to be the best caretakers, and they are traditionally incharge of caring for the weakest, the children, the elderly and feeble.The male as caretaker is equally important when his more aggressivemale nature, is channeled into more constructive activities.

Beliefs can heal and help us build right relationships but too often in ourpast they have been used to alienate and divide our human family. Whatif each day we prayed first for a heart wide enough to embrace ourwhole World!

The Buddhist Thich Nhat Hahn says:

"Wakingup this morning I smile, twenty-four brand new hours are before me. Ivow to live fully in each moment and to look at all beings with eyes ofcompassion".

For the best of all religions is Love, The Spirit of Holy Love.

It is our Spiritual Image of Love, that is expressed in female as well as in the male form. For God is One, One in All.

We get into trouble with only a female or male-only Image of God.

St. Catherine of Sienna gives us a version of

"THE SANTUARY"

"Itcould be said that God's Foot is so vast that this entire earth is buta field on God's Toe... What then is not a Sanctuary? Where then can Inot kneel and pray at a Shrine made Holy by God's Presence."

Rabia, the Sufi in the Muslim Religion, expresses it as:

"IN MY SOUL"

"In my soul there is a Temple, aShrine, a Mosque, a Church where I kneel. Prayer should bring us to analtar where no wall or names exist. In my soul there is a Temple, a Shrine, a Mosque, a Church that dissolves, that dissolves in God”.

The Jewish Rabbi Kushner also sends a prayer for our world.

"Let the rain come and wash away the ancient grudges, the little hatreds held for too long."

Jesus hastold us how we treat others "sums up the laws and the prophets" and "asoften as you do it to the least you do it to me."

Our practice of the universal Golden Rule will be the judge that effects our souls journey.

Evolution vs, Creation

Watched a archelogical document on public TV couple nights ago.

of only one arm missing from a skelton with many flint tools, dated 1.2 million years

ago, and similar migrations of early man, who walked upright, lived in small

groups, with much evidence of the first people beginning to learn to care for one'

another. Like an elderly man without teeth for over two years before he died,

who had to have been fed by the small community. Amazing what they have

found in past 10 years.

Made me think of how long it's taken for "humankind" to evolve their brains,

to include compassion and respect for others.

Learned not too long ago that for past approx. 5000 years we have lived in an

patriarchal societies for the most part, where women and children were primarily

property and considered by males to be of less humaness, and they more Godlike, kinda like blacks or slaves were considered. And many still consider us, that do not have their 3rd leg to show! Plus those of any gender, still primarily male, who think nothing of hiring people at lowest possible wages, that keeps them in the poor house, and now evidence they are out to destroy and have, a big chunk of our middle classes, partly because of health care cost, after most find they have no decent health ins. when no longer can work, or have a pre-existing condition, most of us will have before retirement.

Praise God we are struggling, evolving, coming out of that, into Equality, or Equal Value, Equal worth, for all people. To value all life.

What I especially learned, also recently from other sources, that helped to put it into better perspective was about the 5000 years approx. before Patriarchy, we had mostly a world wide a Matriarchy, that also lasted at least 5000 years. During which time no weapons of war have been found.

That Matriarchy, or home based religion, only changed as weapons of war were produced and put in the more aggressive by nature male hands, first for defense of the group, tribe, or villiage, but later to subject the weaker, females, and children.

This is why the only message God has kept bringing me back to do for past 40 years is to do, is work towards equality, especially within the Chruch from where God's morality should flow! The balance of male and female rights and responsiblities, to counter balance the males more aggressive, by natural hormonal nature, that has carused us to be in one war after another for these past 5000 years.

Christ being born a male, as the only way to have been a teacher of his day or start a Church to learn about and worship God in. But as God, Christ could be neither male or female, but like God have the qualities of both, to create us in the Image of God.
